“Know Where Your Light Is”
Modeling 101
If you are serious about modeling you should be doing your homework and studying! One of the simple studying tools can be found in a little reality tv show called America’s Next Top Model. Even as a photographer there are some tidbits of information that I can get from the show. As a model just starting off this is an excellent and fun source to figure out the basics! Super Model Tyra Banks has a wealth of knowledge and insight into the industry you would be well to watch, listen and learn.
As I was watching and editing some photos I heard one of the golden rules “know where your light is!” For a beginners is crucial to know where your light is and to face it with the plane of your face and let the photographer direct you from there. When coming on to set this is one of the first things you should do, find the light! The main light is usually somewhere right in front of you. If you are unsure ask ” where is the main light? Then you should always be cheating the plane of your face to that light. Modeling 101 know where your light is.
