Name: Yasmeen aka “Yazzie Yaz”

Occupation: Student
Hometown: Newark, New Jersey
Bio: The lovely and talented Yasmeen is not only a model but a young artist. The “Brick City Princess” is working on her highly anticipated 1st studio EP titled “The Sacrifice”.
Why did you get into the industry?
I just did one photo shoot and ended up getting published. Things kind of took off from there, I never thought that it would be this intense. The plan was to just have something for Instagram, but then a lot of magazine started reaching out after that.
What was your first gig or experience in the industry?
JOP Magazine was the first real shoot that I had.
Where do you see yourself in a few years?
My plan is to open a few hair salons and grow that business. I also want to take my music and modeling global… to be worldwide!
What do you like about the industry?
I like that you can be yourself. There aren’t any real rules to deal with… it’s basically do what you want to do. You know, be your own boss.
What don’t you like about the industry?
The thirsty men!
What advice would you give an up and coming model?
Basically to just be yourself and don’t sell out. Whatever standards you came into the game with… keep those standards. Oh and try do things that allow you to get better. Use modeling as a stepping stone to your next thing.
All the drinking—like every night—is not good for the body. So please take care of yourself.
What would you ask an experienced model?
I know a lot of experienced models that are doing their thing, but I wouldn’t really ask them anything because I like to do my own thing. It’s not that they’re not good, but I don’t want to be influenced by a lot of people that already made it in the industry.
Who is your fave model? #WCW?
I don’t really have a favorite model, but I would definitely say Taraji P. Henson is one of my favorite entertainers.
Have you been published? if so, when/where?
There have been a lot: Straight Stuntin, Shy Girl, Exit 21, Well Connected, and GGurl.com, among others.
What major bookings have you done?
I do a lot of bookings, mostly with Straight Stuntin. I had a booking with Jim Jones when I was just getting started.
Your pictures look amazing, what’s your secret?
If you don’t have to wear makeup, then don’t… it should be an add on when you’re not working. Unfortunately some girls start wearing makeup during their shoots and parties, then end up incorporating it in their every day lifestyle which leads to bad skin.
How are you empowering yourself and others?
By not settling! Some girls think they have to get naked, or do whatever, but like I stated previously, you just have to stay consistent… be true to who you were when you came into the game.
Do you feel this industry objectifies women?
Yea, it does, but I would just say don’t judge everybody, and to look deeper at the person instead of putting them into a certain category. Especially eye candy models, as opposed to your typical fashion models, because if we wear panties and a bra, but we’re a little bit thicker than a Victoria’s Secret model, we’re considered whores… while they’re labeled “high-fashion!”
Any interesting you’d like to share with us and your fans?
I’m currently working on my EP called “The Sacrifice” which will be out soon, so stay tuned! Also I’m in school right now for beauty, and I am looking to build a franchise of hair salons. So please keep following me, cuz there’s more to come.
